All in a day's work

So while I've been on the job hunt (which has been NEVER ENDING), I ended up getting a small two day job with a company that has products in Kohl's. I pretty much go paid to fix the displays for four hours and take pictures of it which I can't complain about. The only bad thing about it was that I was in Kohl's for four hours meaning that I was doing visual shopping:you know, walking around seeing all the things that I want and putting it on the shopping list in my head (yes, I am that person).

If you have not been in the store lately, they changed their store much like another store, JC Penney (which I might ad I love the why they changed their store. Here are some of the items that I saw that I need want actually:

Babycakes Cake Pops Maker with Filling Injector  Babycakes Donut Maker  Babycakes Rotating Cake Pop Maker
These are on sale ranging from $19.99 to $39.99. For some reason all of a sudden cakepops and donuts are the in dessert. It went from cupcakes to mini desserts now to these to. They had a pie maker. I feel like if it is meant for me to have something it will still be there when I go back. I know that is a ridiculous idea but it has helped me not buy random items being my pie maker :(

Hamilton Beach 6-qt. SlowcookerPresto Cool Touch Electric Griddle
If you a crock pot/slow cooker or griddle I would suggest going to Kohls. They have the 6 qt crock pot on sale for $29.99 and the griddle is $19.99. You can use both year round and if you do not want to cook just put the food in the crock pot and be done with dinner.

Fiesta 5-pc. Place Setting     Fiesta 4-pc. Place Setting  Fiesta 3-pc. Square Place Setting

My friend from college turned me on to Fiestaware because she had been collecting it since she was in Middle School (her family would give her a little every holiday/birthday). I love it because it is colorful and would be perfect for everyday where or to collect (like come people do) and Kohl's has the Dinnerware Sets of 3,4, and 5 on sale for $28.99. Here are some other Fiesta items I like:

Fiesta Ivory Holiday Collection   Fiesta Multicolored 11-pc. Cutlery Set  Fiesta Masquerade Mediterranean 20-pc. Flatware Set

Fiesta 4-pc. Goblet Set              Fiesta 4-pc. Double Old-Fashioned Glass Set

Fiesta Covered Casserole Dish           Fiesta 2-pc. Prep Bowl Set     Fiesta Canisters

There were also some clothing that I like. I am the first to admit that I have a major obsession with kitchen items but we all need clothes.

LC by Lauren Conrad:

LC Lauren Conrad Lace Dress  LC Lauren Conrad Pleated Chiffon Skirt    LC Lauren Conrad Polka-Dot Peplum Blouse

Jennifer Lopez:

Jennifer Lopez Floral Lurex Circle Skirt      Jennifer Lopez Lurex Boucle Dress

Rock and Republic:

Rock and Republic Chiffon Maxi Skirt   Rock and Republic Colorblock Tuxedo Blazer  Rock and Republic Colorblock Drop-Tail Hem Top

So, I ended up getting paid to be in a store for four hours and getting paid for it in the process. I guess it's all in a days work. Everyone enjoy your hump day and as always: Laters........

What I'm reading now

Growing up with a mother that is a Librarian and a sister who also is a Librarian I have spent many vacations in particular summers at the library reading books and magazines. I have been going through a book about every 3-4 days since I have a great deal of time on my hands. Here are some of the books I read and what I thought about them:

                                                  Normal Gets You Nowhere
Kelly Cutrone: Normal Gets You Nowhere
Her first book If You Have to Cry, Go Outside was pretty good. This one was about how you should be your true self and that trying to be everyone else's version of normal will not get you to your goals or where you want to be. The one chapter I think everyone should read is chapter seven called the No Matter What Club. It is about how sometimes friendships serve there purpose and that the true friends are those that not only stand by you but grow with you.

                                                  Southern Charm: A Novel
                                                             Tinsley Mortimer:Southern Charm
This book could be called semi-autobiographical. Anyone who has read anything about Tinsley Mortimer (or watched the show she had on the CW about two or three years ago) knows that many of the characters and other items in the book are her. The book was entertaining for most part. I was reading it connecting the dots of her real story to the characters in the book. It is better than some of the other "celebrity" books I have read.

                                                                Overdressed:Elizabeth Cline
The premise of this book is how Americans are addicted to cheap, fast fashion and the lengths that American companies have going to keep their cost down. If you are into fashion at all I would recommend reading this. It will change your out look on the clothing you wear and buy. It makes you realize the extent that companies will go to save themselves money.

                                                         Demetri Martin:This is A Book
I like the show Demetri Martin had on Comedy Central but that kind of comedy does not translate will over to a book. There was one or two funny chapters but other than that it was a hard read. In all honesty, I got so bored with the last two chapters that I just decided to stop reading it.

I have four more books to read which I'll review over the next few weeks which are:
  • Options:A Parody by Fake Steve Jobs (Daniel Lyons)
  • School of Fortune by Amanda Brown (who wrote Legally Blonde) and Janice Weber
  • Fashion Slave by Louise De Teliga
  • The Problem of Paine by C.S. Lewis
I know my reviews are not like the pros but they are truthful. I have spent a lot of money on some really bad books that I wish someone would have told me they were horrible before it bought them.

If anyone has any suggestions on books I should read let me know.

Until next time

Autumn Thoughts

Happy Hump Day, peeps!!! Yes, I have been MIA (not like anyone noticed) but hopefully things will be looking up soon i.e. me finding a job the actually uses my Journalism and Merchandising degree. Besides trying to find a job nothing much is happening. I am super excited that it is fall!!!!

Anyone who knows me knows that fall is my favorite time of year. I have super horrible allergies (pollen in particular) and being in Alabama the heat is just the worse. Fall is great down here though  because it is around the perfect temperature in the low to mid seventies and the trees are gorgeous.

The best part about the season though is the food: pies, stews, and soups on my. I have a small rather large obsession with soups and pies. If I could eat both everyday I would. Here a few of the fall items I found on some other sites that if I wasn't unemployed (sad face)I would buy:

                                                       Pumpkin Bakers
I love using ramekins to make individual servings of food items. These Pumpkin Bakers from World Market would be great for a dinner party or even for desserts during Fall if you are one of those people that love a good theme for parties (I do. I guess its that sorority girl in me still). They could also be good for decoration or if you bought enough they could be used to display different types of candy in for Halloween parties.
Acorn Measuring Spoons                                Nesting Acorn Measuring Cups
These Acorn Nesting Measuring Spoons and Measuring Cups are cute. They make me think of not only Fall but where I went to school in Northwest Alabama the campus was swamped with squirrels. I really do not care for squirrels considering I was a kinda attacked by some my Freshman year of college (a story for another time) but these are good if you are one of those people who like to change your kitchen items and home decor based on the season.
                                                       Nonstick Owl Cakelet Pan
The Owl Cakelet Pan at World Market is fun. I know that owls have become the cool thing all of sudden so you can be the coolest hostess if you made individual owl cakes for dessert. It is not only seasonal but it can be a conversation piece.

Here are some more of the fall things I like from Pier1 and World Market.

                                                                     Pier1
Apple Spoon Rest                 Spice Route Condiment - Set of 7                    Harvest Leaf Plates

Multicolored Fondue Set                     Beaded Spreaders Set - Red
                                                               World Market
World Market® Harvest Pasta    Acorn and Leaves Harvest Wreath    Autumn Mini Cutters
Owl Measuring Cups, Set of 3   In the Mix Pumpkin Spice Cookie Mix
Wood Bark Bowl   Beaded Berry Napkin Ring, Set of 4   Milk Chocolate Pumpkin Bark Tin
Market Classics® Creamy Pumpkin Soup       Caramel Apple Cake Pop Kit
Oregon Sweet Potato Butter   Copper Embossed Leaf Chargers, Set of 4    Harvest Scatter Guest Napkins, Set of 16
Everyone have a great Wednesday and enjoy some pie, soup, or both for me.

What I baked

Actually, this was a no bake. I tried making the Glazed Strawberry Pie. Let's just say that it did not turn out as planned. That is usually how many of my first time making items go.

First, I went and bought graham crackers and made my own crust. I used my baby food processor to into crumbs and put it in a pie pan (just melt butter to get it to stick to the pan). I then baked it for 6 minutes at 425 to make sure it set.

I then used some of the strawberries I had. I decided to do something different and make the puree with blueberries and strawberries.
                                                       View photo.JPG in slide show
I diced up the rest of the strawberries and added the blueberries in a bowl.

I had to cook the puree for about 5 minutes to have it thicken it up before I poured it over the berries. I end up making too much puree and now my pie looks like this:

It has been in the refrigerator for about 12 hours. I looks like more of a jello pie than a glazed strawberry pie. I'm going to try to see how it taste but the puree was good so hopefully it turned out ok. Tomorrow I'll post my tuna pot-pie I made this weekend and what I make tonight. I clearly have to find some hobbies so I'll stop baking and cooking.

Later..........

Sweet Treats

One of the things I have always loved about the summer is the food. In particular, I love desserts. Growing up I use to bake anything you can imagine with her. With that being said I just wanted to post some of the tasty treats that I am dying to make before the summer is over. I put the site that they can be found in case anyone does read this and decides to give, making one of these a try.

Glazed Strawberry Pie 9 (cooking.com)
Glazed Fresh Strawberry Pie Recipe at Cooking.com
This is found on is literally just strawberries (the glaze is made with sugar and some other items like lemon juice) and graham crackers. One does not need to be a cook to make this pie.

Glorious Red, White, and Blue Cake (epicurious.com)
Glorious Red, White, and Blue Cake
This cake is more of a 4th of July piece but it can be made a summer with the fresh fruit. Instead of frosting between the cake layers I was thinking of doing jam or even doing it as all white cake with different jam flavors(blackberry, blueberry, etc).

Margarita Lime Pie (cooking.com)
Margarita Lime Pie Recipe at Cooking.com
This pie looks so good but I would not be able to eat it unless I change the  macadamia nuts (totally allergic to them).  This would be great after a Mexican dinner party.

Strawberry, Lemon and Vanilla Ice Cream Parfait (foodandwine.com)
Strawberry, Lemon and Vanilla Ice Cream Parfait
This dessert looks delicious but also it is a little healthier then some of the other ones. You can always substitute strawberry for any other type of fruit.

Watermelon Margarita Pops (southernliving.com)
Watermelon Margarita Pops Recipe
Anyone who knows me knows one of my life goals would be to work for Southern Living. I have been reading it since I was old enough to read. This is an adult version of Popsicles (it has tequila in it).

Fresh Strawberry Meringue Cake (southernliving.com)
Fresh Strawberry Meringue Cake Recipe
I have been wanting to make this cake since I saw it in the April issues of Southern Living. I use to make meringues in high school and hopefully by the end of summer I will have tried (or attempted) making this.

If you notice, I really like fruit (in particular strawberries). I guess when it hot out I would rather eat fruit besides chocolate beside that you can eat chocolate anytime.

Until next time,

I admit it....

I admit it: I suck at blogging. It has been about a month or so since I got on here. I moved again (I should just become a flight attendant so that way I'll get paid for traveling) this time for a few months.
This will actually give me time to do my projects such as finish my chairs and finish some other projects. But for now (considering that no one reads my blog) I am going to try to blog on a more regular basis.
